Brilliant or a Bit Disturbing?

I really like it.

Movie Link Time

I'm a sucker for Greg Kinnear (been a fan since his Soup hosting days). Check out Feast of Love

Also, I'm a sucker for Billy Crudup, so I think I'll check out Dedication. Even though it looks too cool for it's own good, or maybe it's the soundtrack that's distracting me.

Wes Anderson is out with a new film,The Darjeeling Limited, always good to check out. I might need pot to appreciate it, it helped with The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

I was on the debate team in high school. To put it mildly I sucked. I was never prepared, got stage fright, and generally tried to miss every time we had a debate scheduled. This film will help me relieve my humiliation. I'm looking forward to it.

I always feel cheap after watching orphanage movies and yet I comeback and again. Plus Daniel Radcliffe is this one.

I have this sneaking suspicion Christian Bale is one of the best actors working right now in Hollywood, even if some of the movies he makes are not on my have-to-see it-list. 3:10 to Yuma looks like an interesting Western and Rescue Dawn should be well done.

More Potter News

I knew it! The Jews always have something to do with everything......

Directions

I think of the most important things a person can learn is how to read directions well. I remember in school my teachers would always chide us for not reading the directions thus getting things wrong unnecessarily. It seems that adults still have the same problem! It's amazing how people will refuse to look at something that actually explains and tells them what to do.

Update: Wow this was like the most boring post ever. I really should not blog.

I've been a bit absent....

for the same reasons a bunch of dorks around the country were...I was finishing the new installment of Harry Potter. I liked the beginning, bit of the middle and the ending was done well. The epilogue kind of annoyed me and the Ron/Hermione "tensions" was utterly ridiculous. We get it. They like each other. I think J.K. Rowling is great at plot and teenage angst but I think she really needs an editor.

On Rowling's Writing

via Ace

I have always wondered about this while reading the Harry Potter books and Megan Mcardle captures it perfectly.

The low opportunity cost attached to magic spills over into the thoroughly unbelievable wizard economy. Why are the Weasleys poor? Why would any wizard be? Anything they need, except scarce magical objects, can be obtained by ordering a house elf to do it, or casting a spell, or, in a pinch, making objects like dinner, or a house, assemble themselves. Yet the Weasleys are poor not just by wizard standards, but by ours: they lack things like new clothes and textbooks that should be easily obtainable with a few magic words. Why?

Man I Hate Those Bracelets

From Toothpaste for Dinner

Observation From the Gym

Things that creep me out: Looking over and seeing that the old man exercising on the elliptical machine was watching Next Top Model. So wrong.

I Love It When Other People Write Your Reviews For You

I saw the latest installment of Harry Potter, which I liked more than any other film in the series. I was basically going to write pretty the same thing that Gib wrote (just not as well as Gib).

Like Gib I was very happy to see the producers decided to edit out the boring Quidditch scenes. Sirius (I love Gary Oldman),Snape, and Umbridge were pitch perfect and as usual Helena Bonham Carter was great as a crazy that she is probably in real life. Did someone say "typecast"?

Anyway, my verdict is go see it.

After the Vacation Feeling

I'm always amazed at the overwhelming feeling that hits me when I return after a vacation. The awful news, that I have been desensitized to night after night, feels incredibly hard to bear. Everything is less exciting, beautiful, and tolerable.
