West Bank: All the Fun of Saudi Arabia Without All The Oil Money

New "morality police" has begun detaining Palestinians who eat or drink in public during the fasting month of Ramadan, a first in the West Bank where Muslim custom was always widely observed, but never before imposed.

Nice to see Hamas doing what it does best - harrassing people and imposing their fanatical views on others. Guess that's what you get by being "democratic" and choosing people who not only want to kill your neighbors (evil Jews) but also want to control every aspect of your life.

Ouch

Well at least it was cesarean section. Also nice to see some Russian generosity for the mother of 12:
"We have presented them with a good washing machine, a food package and a card," Alistratova told the newspaper. "We will keep supporting them in the future."

TV Show Mourning

I don't think I'm watching any new shows this fall. I've had it.
It all started With My So Called Life, then a myriad of other shows I fallen for and which were canceled by ruthless executives suites and stupid public who watch shows like CSI:Miami, yet have no time for Firefly followed. What kind of world do we live in where Friends gets to have ten seasons (six of which sucked) and Veronica Mars gets canceled after three very-witty seasons? An unfair world. Sure there's The Office and the original CSI with Grisham's somewhat esoteric comments to numb my pain, but it feels too painful to start watching any new show...only to have it canceled mid season.
On another note I think I have some kind derangement, I am obsessed, with a capital "O," with Veronica Mars. I might even brake my vow of not watching any new series by watching Logan Jason Dohring play a second tier character in some vampire/crime show. Sigh. Damn suits.

Driving Iritation #378

I drive a lot. Hence, I get irritated a lot. I could go on and on about the kind of things that piss me off on the road, but I'll save it for another post.
The one thing that I keep observing and which no one finds much of a problem with is the red tail light that indicates either a left or right turn. This drives me nuts. I know it's not the drivers fault but the car manufacturers, still it leaves me annoyed at the car in front of me.
Whoever thought of this is a moron. You never know if the person is turning left or right when they are at a complete stop. A pretty important indication if say someone wants to make a right turn behind the said car. There's a reason why we have left/right blinkers and it's not to keep the person behind you in suspense. Stupid red tailed lights. /rant

One Of The Most Ridiculuos Videos I've Seen In A Long Time

It all makes sense if you don't delve into context of the words Naomi Klein uses or the images Alfonso CuarĂ³n uses. Paranoia can be scary.

BTW: I found this article pretty amusing, which led me to find this Jewel of Clip.

Over Time

Such a pretty song.

Overtime
That's what they all tell me
That's what they say to me
Overtime
Your blue eyes, your black eyelashes
The way you looked at life
In your funny way
I guess out of the blue
You won't cross my mind
And I'll get over you
Overtime
Your pale skin, your sexy crooked teeth
The trouble you'd get in
In your clumsy way
I guess one afternoon
You won't cross my mind
And I'll get over you
Overtime
I guess out of the blue
You won't cross my mind
And I'll get over you
Overtime

Lucinda Williams

:(

How do you mime sad?

Marcel Marceau has died at the age of 84.

I went to see him once (a few years ago) and it was an amazing experience.I had my doubts going to see a mime - with all the ridiculous stereotypes you see of mimes on TV I wasn't terrible excited. But seeing him on stage was like watching a poem unfold in front of you. He was a true master of his art and he will be missed.

Local Food Question

Where does one find sorrel in the Boston area. I had sorrel soup last night and it reminded me of how good sorrel is. I can still taste it. Yum.

Quote of the Day

"You know what? People who think that all the world’s problems would be solved if women ruled the world are full of crap. And I say this as a woman and a feminist."

-Meryl Yourish referring to the idiotic ramblings of Sally Field.
via Hot Air

Personally I dislike the sentiment that just because I'm a woman I need to stick with ALL women. The idea that somehow women are better than men strikes me as such a crude sentiment, like calling someone a nasty name in the school yard. Different does not mean better or worse, it's just different. Another ridiculuous idea is that women are more peaceful than men, have you ever seen a female lion protect her cubs? Not so peaceful.

Gawd, I hate stupid platitudes like this.

Snapshot of Me at 18

After watching Y Tu Mama Tambien my friends and I came up with our own "Charalastra" rules. There's a theme here I wonder if it's "subtle."

1. Watch quality porn.
2. Use the words "muffin" and "babysit."
3. Maintain sexually awkward relationships with D. or other
significant males or insignificant males or significant females.
4. Mention the mechanics of sex, which are mechanical, as often as
necessary.
5. Keep all conversations concerning breastfeeding or other related
topics to a minimum.
6. Discuss sex with abstract nouns, concrete nouns and animate objects.
7. Discuss sex.
8. Slap another friend's ass, mediocre or otherwise.
9. Use multilingual diminutives when speaking to loved ones.
10. Discuss jews at all gatherings.
11. Not all "alternative" people are alternative, and not all cool people
are "cool."
12. "Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't =
take it and my heart is going to cave in."
13. Whacking off rules. [debatable?]

Random Letter Musings

Whenever I write the letter "J" it always comes out looking pretty lame. I don't know why it's such a hard letter to write; it always looks like a retarded version of my handwriting. Also it seems since I only print now I've forgotten how to write a capital cursive "J."

September 11, 2001

It's amazing how many people don't think of this day at all. How easily people forget -only after six years. There's a need to not only remember that day, but to remind ourselves of the need to rid the world of the people who did this and who plan on doing more of the same.

Update: Ace wrote a pretty dead on post.

Things That Are Not Fun

Panic attacks. They kind of suck. Damn brain chemistry.

Blur Is Just Amazing

I love this song. Now more than ever. Substitute cigarettes for coffee and it's something to similar to my life.

I've been obsessed with this song for a bit

I liked the other version of this song. I don't know why, I don't even like Kanye West that much. Just been sounding right to me recently. I don't get the Cosby/Hill reference. Anyone know?

Annoying

I hate it when I have a cute little idea for a post. And then poof and it's is gone from my brain. Grrrr. I shake my fist at my brain.

Not Only Is His Poetry Divine

....His voice is not bad either.

William Carlos Williams has a gorgeous voice. On a whim I took out Williams' voice recordings of his poetry. I fell in love with his calm, yet emotional, voice. I love that he was both a poet and doctor. There something great about an artist that has a "practical" profession. I feel it grounds the "artist" in reality, which otherwise, without the experience of everyday life render them a bit fake.

Here's
a recording of several poems, including one of my favorites (third poem),

Smell

OH strong-ridged and deeply hollowed
nose of mine! what will you not be smelling?
What tactless asses we are, you and I, boney nose,
always indiscriminate, always unashamed,
and now it is the souring flowers of the bedreggled
poplars: a festering pulp on the wet earth
beneath them. With what deep thirst
we quicken our desires
to that rank odor of a passing springtime!
Can you not be decent? Can you not reserve your ardors
for something less unlovely? What girl will care
for us, do you think, if we continue in these ways?
Must you taste everything? Must you know everything?
Must you have a part in everything?

Whenever I listen to these recordings I'm reminded that poetry is meant to be read out loud.
