Slightly Obsessed

Peter had introduced me to this song a while back, it was so haunting and beautiful at the same time that I would ask him to play it every time we drove to the bus station at the end of yet another very short weekend together. Overtime, I ended up ripping the whole cd from him.
A few weeks ago (2/28 to be exact) we ended up going to the Soundfix in Brooklyn to hear Marissa Nadler play a free show. We were a little late (getting on the Manhattan bridge from the FDR proved to be a challenge), but as a nice coincidence she started singing "Silvia" as we walked in - I took it as a good sign. The venue was small, dark, and intimate (also filled with hipsters) - perfect for her music. (The version above doesn't do the song justice, trust me it's even better as a studio recording.) I actually ended up going up to talk to her, we went to the same high school and I had friends who knew her. She was a bit strange/spacey, but it didn't matter her music is gorgeous and made up for the awkwardness. It's weird to think someone so talented came out of little ol' Needham, suburbia personified. She has a new cd out, which I can't wait to listen to.
