Andrew McCarthy (yes that Andrew McCarthy, the 80's teen heartthrob) is apparently a pretty good travel writer:
I love Paul Theroux’s book on train travel in South America – “The Old Patagonian Express.” His travel books were a great influence on the way I traveled early on. They inspired me well out of my comfort zone. And it helped me realize that it’s okay that a great deal of travel, especially solo travel, is logistics, loneliness and trudging.I feel like not enough writers/travelers acknowledge that sentiment. Travel can be wondrous and exhilarating but it can also be so confusing and frustrating.
